Why is animal testing wrong?
If you wouldn't test products and chemicals on humans, then why would you test it on animals? Mice and men are not the same. The bodies do not function the same, and for that, only one drug out of ten are successful. Animal testing is not reliable when products are tested on different species than those who they are meant for. Another reason that testing on animals is not reliable is the conditions are not the same. The testing of animals have failed to improve the health of humans and can also be dangerously misleading.
Animal Welfare Act
Today, many animals are used for a variety of purposes in experimental tests. Over 90 percent of studies that involve animals include using mice and rats for experiments from immunological projects to cancer research. The concern of many activists over animals in distress and suffering from experimentation led to the creation of the Animal Welfare Act by the US federal govt. in 1966. The act was designed to protect animals that might be used as a test subject and set guidelines for the experimenter to give the animal proper care. But by 1970, the act widened to protecting dogs, cats, primates, guinea pigs, rabbits, and hamsters and all "warm-blooded animals" with the exception of mice, rats and birds. Also, many activists argued whether cosmetic testing or biomedicine testing was worse for the animal. Alternatives to testing should be the first resort, as it prevents suffering and helps save animal lives.
Is it reliable?
It is not reliable! Even though animal testing has been a process for many years, it still isn't the same as if were being used for humans later on. If products are made for humans, than why aren't they using humans to test the new products? Not many products are safe at first and when they risk the lives of the animal, then why put that type of chemical. There needs to be research done to find more alternatives and the research needs to be taken more serious.
